Hawley 2 v Stratfield Turgis & Hartley Wespall Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 17 May 2008 at 1.30
Stratfield Turgis & Hartley Wespall Cricket Club Won 9 wickets
Match report
Hawley won the toss and elected to bat. With gloom and heavy drizzle,
Hawley made slow progress. First blood went to Desai, bowling D Litwin,
but Dickenson and Adams put on 46 for the second wicket before Jones
bowled J Harris. Spinner Jamie Legg took the next two wickets, which
included a smart stumping by skipper GRANT Strudley to remove the
remaining opener. Adams and M Harris then put on 61 runs for the 5th
wicket. Their partnership included some quick running and big hits,
which Stratfield found hard to field in the slippery and increasingly
dark surroundings. Legg, however, broke the partnership with 2 wickets
in 2 balls, followed by another shortly afterwards. Desai and Mison
both returned to take a wicket each before a 9th wicket stand of 27
helped Hawley to 158 for 9. Hampshire Disability XI player Jamie Legg
was the star bowler, taking 5-34 from 13 overs. Chris Mison's 1-14 off
11 overs was also impressive.
Two partnerships - 69 between Ian Rogers and Ed Dingwall for the 1st
weicket and an unbroken 91 between Dingwall and Steve Brown for the 2nd
saw Stratfeld to a comfortable victory. Left hander Rogers had most of
the strike in the first partnership, while Dingwall found it hard going
on the rain affected wicket. J Harris took Hawley's only wicket, coming
around the wicket to bowl Rogers for 37. Dingwall began to assert at
this point himself and supported by Brown began to hit boundaries with
increasing ease. Dingwall finished 41 not out and Brown 36 not out to
conclude a 9 wicket win for Stratfield Turgis 2nd XI. Despite Legg's
outstanding performance with ball, Dingwall was declared Man of the Match.
