Match report Wow, what a match! Turgis 2s played league leaders Mortimer on Saturday in an encounter that swung backwards and forwards before eventually ending in a tie. Asked to bat first, Turgis were soon in trouble at 40 for 5. However, things changed when Laurie Figzal (47) and Dan Weller-Evans (43) came to the crease - an excellent stand of 83 got Turgis right back in the game. More quick wickets seemed to put Mortimer back in the ascendancy but a very useful last wicket stand of 30 between skipper, Martin Turvey, and Laurie ended the innings on a high. 165 all out - game on! Bowling is often our strength and early wickets had the table toppers in trouble at 16 for 3 and then 78 for 7; however, Mortimer are a resilient team and they came back fighting. A boundary tied the scores and all seemed lost. But then our batting heroes combined once more - Dan taking a catch behind off Laurie to spark scenes of jubilation in the outfield. A rare tied game. A great match and a great all round performance - 3 excellent wickets for Ravi and 2 for Laurie, Ben Weller-Evans and Craig Strudley. Also a memorable catch from Graham Jackson - clinging on to a skier that was in the air for an eternity, Well played - this is why we love cricket!
