Match report The bowlers were on top throughout the game when Stratfield took on Sulhampstead in the BCL 1st division. Stratfield's batsmen found it hard going against some persistent bowling from Patrick Phillips (3 for 24) and Ian Williams (4 for 50) and at one point slumped to 66 for 8. Steve Ayers showed some of his long-promised potential in making 28 not out, but ran out of partners and Stratfield could only muster 102 runs on the unpredictable wicket.

Sulhampstead's batsmen also struggled early on and at 59 for 6 the game was wide open. However, when Martin Booth joined Ian Williams they got their heads down and picked-off singles, without taking unnecessary risk, to gradually edge towards their target. In a rare show of aggression, Williams holed-out in the deep for 30 and with Sulhampstead at 95 for 8 it seemed as though the home side might still have a chance. Coming in at number nine Glen Gardner made light of the situation and planted his first ball onto the pavilion roof and Sulhampstead reached the target as the next ball sped through for byes.

Skipper Steve Clarke ended with 5 for 45 off 14.5 overs and Steve Ayers 3 for 24 off 10, but ultimately Stratfield lost the game due to their inability to post a more demanding first innings total.
