Match report
Starting the game with a chance of sneaking in to a promotion position, the team new all they could do was aim for maximum points. After winning the toss and electing to bat the objective was to get maximum batting points. Ormston started well and the score was on 25 when Walton was bowled on the last ball of the 4th over. That saw Dyson take to the crease and he and Ormston continued the quick scoring until Ormstom fell in the 11th over with 61 on the board. Millward and Dyson then set about calmly and confidently batting the side towards the bonus points with 114 run partnership which was ended when Dyson fell for 88 in the 32nd over with the score on 175. Millward remained at the crease until he was run out on the last ball over the innings for 72 which meant STHW posted a very challenging 237 for 7. In reply the Purley openers were in a rush and played some big positive shots until a bowling change saw Geddes in to the attack and an immediate breakthrough followed. Strudley was bowling well at the other end and couple more quick wickets including a stunning run our from Reynaldo saw Purley struggling with 4 wickets down. That was point they decided to bat for the draw and started to see overs out until Figzal returned to the attack and took a wicket in his first over. then the major partnership of there innings was not exciting but effective and with the game heading for a comfortable draw, the ball was thrown to Mison who was making his first appearance Mid July due to injury. 2 wickets in 2 balls in his 2nd over set up an exciting finish with 2 wickets remaining and 26 balls to get them. Despite a great effort from the bowlers and some near misses, it was in vain as Purley clung on for a no point scoring draw. The team had done all they can and despite initial disappointment at not taking maximum points, word soon reached us that the other result had gone against us and it would not have mattered anyway. an exciting end to a first season in division 3 and in a year we would have been happy to survive in the higher league we nearly stole promotion for a 2nd consecutive year. The future is bright and next year we have to one of the favorites to win the league.
